Advanced French

Roxanne Trombly

School-625-9811

Advanced French is a class with a focus on spoken French. Students cannot succeed in the class unless they speak French when given the opportunity. If a student does not speak in class they cannot expect to earn a grade above a "C". One of the many goals of the class is to strengthen the language skills that the students have acquired in previous levels. We will spend the semester strengthening the rungs on the language "ladder" so that students will have increased confidence and the ability to move quickly and comfortably between tenses. Detailed points of grammar and a more specific vocabulary will be taught as well.

This class is unique in that it is a class of levels 4-7. This proposes many challenges, but it is a lively and cooperative group that I believe will make the most of the situation. The bench mark projects(test graded) for each level this quarter are:

French 4-Group game project-Students will create a game in French. Each group will decide on a theme, write directions to the game, create a gameboard and write 21 grammatically sound questions.

French 5-Autobiography-This is a final exam projects that will be worked on for the semester in addition to regular class work.

French 6-7-students will propose a project (5 pgs per quarter or one 10 page project) to be approved by the teacher. Some possibilities are: a biography of an important French place or person, a children's story, or a cultural research project.

Homework is generally given Mon-Thursday and must be completed to the best of a student's ability 100% of the time.
