Students learn to analyze and develop an
appreciation for traditional and contemporary authors. Reading as
a leisure and learning activity is encouraged.

Long composition/MCAS
Open response/MCAS
Creative writing
Business letter
MUG shots (Mechanics, Usage, and Grammar)
Emphasis is placed
on written language in many formal and informal forms. Through
interdisciplinary units and projects students learn the importance and
power of language.
Grades are based on the following:
1/3 classwork/homework
1/3 quizzes/book reports
1/3 writing assignments
Homework: Students should be reading a book. They
are responsible for a different genre each month. The form of the
book report consists of 1/3 report* and an oral chat.

A student reads 1/3 of the book and makes a commitment to finishing
the
book with a prediction on how the novel ends.
